The warm temperatures continue in February. Where it is more like spring in the valley, the touring conditions at altitude are still good, even if the snow depth in Kühtai is slightly below average for mid-February.

Last weekend and also during the week, you could make good powder turns at high altitude, whereas in the Inn Valley, with temperatures of around +15°C and a green landscape, some people preferred to go climbing on the rock.

The accumulations of drift snow have become somewhat more compact, but are still the main problem. Weak layers of angular crystals are also still an issue, especially at altitudes between 2400 - 3000m. These were caused by the over-snowed pimple powder from January 30 and partly by the combination of rain followed by snow on February 4 due to hazard pattern 4.

Be careful with an old snow problem, especially at the transitions from much to little snow, as mentioned in the avalanche report.

In today's profile, we only find weak layers near the surface. These are disturbable, but the fracture could not spread over the entire block, so that only partial fractures were produced (ECTN).

170 - 162 cm

The snow surface is a soft layer of angular crystals that formed during the radiation nights, mixed with a few felty crystals from the fresh snow on 11.2.20. It is already a slightly pronounced nap powder again.

162 - 158 cm

The snow in the layer below was influenced by the wind, it is bound and has a hardness of 2-3 (between four and one finger).

158 - 152 cm

Felt and angular crystals with a hardness of 1-2 (between fist and 4 fingers) here the constructive transformation was / is in progress. However, this progresses only slowly with the low temperature gradient.

The thin crust is from the fair weather phase up to 27.2.20

The angular layer below the crust is the nap powder that has been mentioned several times in previous browses.

Blue:

Green:

Layers of angular rounded crystals with slight differences in hardness and uniform crystal size. There are no weak layers and the snow cover in this area cannot be disturbed, which is a positive aspect.
