Alert period and areas

The alert goes from northern France to the Rax, but the broad core goes from the Bernese Oberland to the Salzkammergut.

Powder almost always almost at the very bottom. Partly in the foothills of the Alps in the east rain up to 800 or 900m, on the Arlberg possibly up to 1000 or 1100m and in France also 1300m. Inner Alps always up to almost all valleys.

The amounts

In the peripheral areas there will be about 30-60cm, whereby I would expect more at the lower edge in France and rather beyond that on the Rax.

In the core there will be 70-100cm of fresh snow and in the accumulation areas of the core 120-150cm of fresh snow. As the accumulation lasts a long time and is cold, there is potential for surprises at the top, especially in special accumulation areas such as the Nordkette or in the Salzkammergut, but not that much.

The snow depth increases with three days of snowfall are more in the range of 60-80% of the new snow totals, as large amounts settle well, so don't expect 150cm+ at the measuring stations.

Where should I go?

Tomorrow, on Monday, only in the east where there is a soft base, in the forest, otherwise more likely in the meadow.
