Gear Review | Scott Insuloft Superlight PL

First impression

The Insuloft Superligt PL is really light, minimalist and very compact. When compressed, it takes up significantly less space than a 1 litre drinking bottle. This is partly due to the use of very high-quality materials, but also because it is a relatively thin insulating jacket. The jacket is basically designed as a mid-layer and therefore has a rather close-fitting cut, but it can also be worn as an outer layer over a jacket that is also rather close-fitting, such as a softshell.

Tester & test conditions

I am 183cm tall and weigh just under 80kg, I wear the jacket in size L, which fits me well. I ski a lot, mostly on ski tours. I had the jacket with me on several ski tours, but also in different conditions in the ski resort, both on and in my backpack.

I have only tested the jacket during winter, but I am convinced that it is also an interesting garment for summer mountain sports activities such as hiking, climbing or mountaineering. The low weight and pack size allow you to simply throw the jacket into your backpack and still stay nice and warm in the wind on a summit or in the cool of the evening.

The jacket's simple style also makes it ideal for everyday wear when shopping or strolling through town, especially in the transitional seasons.

Conclusion

Very light and compact, yet surprisingly warm insulating jacket. If you're looking for a thin model without a hood, for example to take with you wherever you go, you should take a closer look at the Insuloft Superlight PL.
