Education and numerous government prevention campaigns must have worked, because I don't feel properly dressed without a helmet. Off-piste I fear stones and trees, on-piste I fear the many other snow sports enthusiasts. A helmet is always part of my equipment. That's why it's important that it's lightweight and fits my skull like a second scalp. When I hold my old helmet and the Salomon Quest in my hands, the Quest feels much lighter. On the scales, the difference of 60g is not that big. In the end, however, it's the feeling on your head that counts, and the Quest is just right.

I think the idea of using air to adjust the helmet is brilliant. The Custom Air fit system has a button to pump the air in and a second button to let the air out again. The air is placed in an air cushion, which is about 10 cm high and is positioned at the back of the head between the two ear pads. The system works perfectly and is easy to operate, even when wearing gloves.

However, it would be desirable if the air cushion could be more evenly inflated and deflated around the entire head.
The chin area of the Quest is protected by a pleasantly soft pad. The straps are easy to adjust and the click fastener is easy to manipulate. Thanks to the additional side fastenings, not only can ski goggles be attached to the helmet, but also a headlamp for a night ski tour, which I personally find very practical.

Overall, the helmet makes a warm impression. As it has often been colder than -10°C in the last few weeks and I get cold quickly, I still wear a hat under the helmet. Fortunately, this is no problem thanks to the helmet's good adaptability. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to test warm temperatures. However, the helmet has four ventilation slots with snow protection. The front two vents can also be opened completely with a slider, but I didn't feel the difference. There are ventilation channels all over the inside of the helmet and I can imagine that this significantly improves air circulation. Unfortunately, the ear pads are not removable, which made me look old in the park and on the halfpipe!

In spring, you could theoretically remove the foam pads glued into the ear pad. If you sweat a lot, the entire inner lining can be removed and the manufacturer promises 100% washability. Fortunately, I wasn't able to put the helmet through an endurance test in terms of stability. I'm happy to rely on Salomon's extensive experience and innovative technologies, the certification and the optimized fit thanks to the air system.

The helmet is available in four different colors. I really like the color and shape of the dark blue model that I tested. I feel dressed with the Salomon Quest and still hardly feel it on my head.
