Snow of Tomorrow | Mountainsports for Everyone
Martin Svejkovsky • 03/18/2024Education is one of the most important factors in driving social change towards a more sustainable and increasingly fair world. For this reason, Protect Our Winters Austria organises a variety of different climate workshops that are adapted to the respective target group. With the "Mountainsports for Everyone" project, POW Austria has set itself the goal of providing children and young people who normally have little or no connection to mountain sports with low-threshold access to climbing, mountain biking, skiing and snowboarding. At the same time, important knowledge and an awareness of the climate crisis was imparted to them through age-appropriate climate workshops. -

We reap what we have sown! We also offer you the best amateur vloggers - Marco Bassot and Gerhard Wiedemann - with a bit of FWT risk management and a good podcast with Maxime Chabloz at the end. -

WeatherBlog 16 2023/24 | Still changeable
Lea Hartl • 03/13/2024The series of southerly storms seems to be over for the time being and the medium term looks like (south)westerly weather. Otherwise, we have various "Miscellaneous" blog items this time. -

Gear Review | Scott Patrol Ultralight E2 25
Sebastian Siep • 03/09/2024A very light and convincingly well-fitting backpack made of robust material, which is rather spartanly equipped. The EL2 system encourages practising, as it is easy to use and the backpack can be folded up and loaded again effortlessly after deployment. With a well thought-out packing strategy, the pack volume offers sufficient space for all one-day adventures. -

ContestHappening 4 2023/24 | Georgia
• 03/08/2024The third stop of the FWT takes place in Georgia for the first time. The country is no longer a freeride insider tip and it's obvious why. It's the day of the cut, which will decide who gets to compete in the finals in Fieberbrunn and Verbier. The north-north-west facing face of Peak Kakhiani awaited the athletes with perfect visibility, bluebird day and powder snow. The spectacle begins with the snowboard category, where the leading Victor De Le Rue (FRA) and Spain's Núria Castán Barón take victory. On skis, Switzerland's Sybille Blanjean and Canada's Marcus Goguen win. -

On our own behalf | PowderGuide.com now also in English
PowderGuide • 03/07/2024This season is full of new features. At the beginning of the season, we went online with the new website; now, as already announced, we are also going online in two languages. From March 2024, PowderGuide.com will be available in English as well as German. This will enable us to expand our readership and accessibility and create inclusion of the non-German-speaking Alpine region. -

WeatherBlog 15 2023/24 | February too warm for March
Lea Hartl • 03/06/2024The mean temperature for February this year corresponds to a warmer than average March. In all Alpine countries, February was much warmer than usual and records were broken in many cases. The statistical winter (December, January, February) was also one of the warmest on record. Of course, the skiing winter is not over yet, and there will be more to come in the south at the weekend. -
