The Lungau is a landscape (and at the same time a political district) in the south-east of Salzburg and offers several advantages and attraction points for us downhill-orientated ski tourers thanks to its geographical location.

With this last nordstau, Ullr is sending us what could be the last cold snowfall suitable for weekends and the oracle is using this opportunity to bid a highly official farewell to the summer break, as medium range forecast does not look like there will be any more wintry surprises until the end of April.

After our annual ski crossing was cancelled last year due to the lack of snow in the Alps, we really wanted to discover new places again this winter and spend several days in mountain huts. Our main criteria for this were to find an area that was previously unknown to all of us, that could be reached from Innsbruck within two hours and where there were many different options for experiencing nature.

Winter is slowly coming to an end, even if the fresh snow maps on the PG-ICON weather forecast are once again turning colourful this week. In the meantime, we are continuing to work on the weather maps on Powderguide.com. We have refreshed the portfolio once again to provide the travellers among you with reliable snow and weather data. Our forecast maps are now also available for Norway and Scandinavia, the Caucasus and the Pyrenees! A search function has also been integrated into the map, allowing you to quickly search for locations, valleys or mountains.

Who hasn't wanted to ski or snowboard on an active volcano, between fumaroles (steaming clouds of smoke that smell of rotten eggs)? Where else would this be possible than in the land of hills and volcanoes: Japan, more precisely Hokkaido.

To be honest, we only managed the VdW every fortnight this season. But not true, we had some nice films! And now, at what feels like the end of the season, we still have something to offer. The weather can be summarised as follows at the moment: Before the summer is after the summer is before the summer and sometimes it snows. At the moment we're in a "it's snowing again" phase. Tomorrow summer will return.

After two corona-related cancellations (2020 & 2021), an event in 2022, where unfortunately no contest took place, and a weather-related cancellation in 2023, a BoT could be held again this year.

Pin bindings are becoming more and more widespread and have almost replaced the good old frame binding. But how do they actually release and what do you need to bear in mind?

We spent three days together with Patagonia-Europe in the Rauris Valley and, in addition to the new product presentation, we paid a visit to the Sonnblick Observatory. There, Dr. Elke Ludewig, head of the high-alpine research station, gave us interesting insights into how research has been taking place every day at an altitude of 3,106 metres since 1886. Topics on glacier degradation, sustainable materials and climate change were at the centre of the event.
